No appointments and no originals in the post. You can order from a PDF or a scan of your licence.
Send the PDF, a scan or a clear photo. If your passport spells a name differently, tell us in the comments.
Every field is translated, including notes recorded on the licence and any apostille.
Typically within 24–48 hours, ready to upload with your application. Add a printed copy by post if you need one.
Your translation is compared line by line with your passport and other documents, so it has to be complete and exact.
You can do all of this from Australia.
Visitors in every state can drive on a current overseas licence, carrying an English translation or an International Driving Permit where the state asks for one. Converting to an Australian licence is different: Transport for NSW only accepts translations from Multicultural NSW or the Department of Home Affairs (plus the Korean and Taipei offices for their own licences), so a private NAATI translation, including ours, is not accepted for a NSW conversion. Victoria, Queensland, the ACT, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania accept NAATI translators for a conversion. The NT asks for an “authorised translator”; check with the NT Motor Vehicle Registry first.
Germany, Austria and Switzerland are recognised countries in every state and territory. With a current car licence you can convert without a knowledge test or a driving test. Translation rules still differ by state.
The Swiss licence (Führerausweis) is a credit-card format card issued by the road traffic office of your home canton. Category B covers vehicles up to 3,500 kg with up to eight seats besides the driver's.
Switzerland's International Driving Permit is a translation of your licence, ordered from your canton's road traffic office (in some cantons also from the ACS or TCS). It is valid only together with the national licence.
| On the licence | What it is | In your translation |
|---|---|---|
| Führerausweis | The Swiss driving licence card | Driving licence |
| Kategorie B | Cars up to 3,500 kg, up to 8 seats besides the driver's | Category B |
| Strassenverkehrsamt | The cantonal road traffic office | Road traffic office |
From the Department of Home Affairs' guidance on documents in languages other than English:
Our certified translations carry the translator's NAATI stamp and certification statement, on our letterhead with our address and telephone number.
No. Transport for NSW only accepts translations from Multicultural NSW or the Department of Home Affairs. Our translation can be carried while you drive as a visitor, and is accepted for conversions in Victoria, Queensland, the ACT, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.
Western Australia says a licence written in two languages, English and another, still needs an English translation. EU and Swiss card licences are mostly in the national language, so translate both sides.
Switzerland's International Driving Permit is issued by the road traffic office of your canton, and in some cantons by the ACS or TCS. It is valid for three years and only together with your national licence. Some states accept an International Driving Permit instead of a translation while you visit; for a conversion, a translation is what they ask for.
A certified translation reproduces names exactly as they are written on the licence. If your passport shows a different spelling or order, mention it in the comments when you order so we can discuss it with you before translation starts.
The typical turnaround for a driver's licence is 24 to 48 hours. An urgent option is available when you order.
Yes. The certified translation is always delivered as a PDF by email, and you can add a printed copy sent by post when you order.
