What you receive

A translation built to be checked

Your translation is compared line by line with your passport and other documents, so it has to be complete and exact.

  • Every field translated, including the notes recorded on the document.
  • Names exactly as on the document, in the same spelling and order.
  • The translator's NAATI stamp and certification statement, showing who translated it and their NAATI credential.
  • Our letterhead with our address and telephone number, so the translation can be traced back to us.

What Home Affairs asks for

Home Affairs lists national identity cards and passports among the documents that can show your photograph and signature.

gavel

Identity documents and translation

Home Affairs lists a national identity card and the pages of a valid passport among identity documents. If a document is not in English, it asks for the original document and an English translation; in Australia the translator should be NAATI accredited. ImmiAccount asks for identity card details exactly as they appear on the card.

ID cards

Front and back

Identity cards carry details on both sides. Send both, so every field is translated: number, names, dates, place of birth and any notes.

Exactly as shown

Names and numbers match

Online forms ask for card details exactly as they appear on the card. We keep names, numbers and dates exactly as written.

Passports

Only what is not in English

German, Austrian and Swiss passports already carry English labels on the photo page. Home Affairs' rule applies to documents that are not in English; if part of yours is not, we translate those pages.

What Home Affairs asks of a translation

From the Department of Home Affairs' guidance on documents in languages other than English:

  • Provide the original document together with the English translation.
  • In Australia, use a translator accredited by NAATI.
  • Include the translator's full name, address and telephone number, and qualifications and experience in the language, all in English.

Our certified translations carry the translator's NAATI stamp and certification statement, on our letterhead with our address and telephone number.

What to send us
  • The official document as a PDF, or a clear colour scan where every line is readable.
  • Every page in one file, including the apostille if there is one.
  • Any spelling your names must match on your passport, written in the comments box.
  • Both sides of an identity card, in one file.
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my passport translated?

Only if it is not in English. Home Affairs asks for an English translation of any identity document that is not in English; German, Austrian and Swiss passports have English labels on the photo page.

Can you translate both sides of my ID card?

Yes, and we recommend it: the back of the card carries details such as the address or the issuing authority.

How long does the translation take?

Identity documents usually take 24 to 48 hours. An urgent option is available when you order.

Can I get a printed copy?

Yes. The certified translation is always delivered as a PDF by email, and you can add a printed copy sent by post when you order.
